Jon Ruckman
Jon Ruckman
Townsville born and bred, Jon Ruckman completed an apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker before moving on to AE Smith where he undertook a posting to Mount Isa.
Keen to start his own business, Jon teamed up with a former boss to establish Sandco Drilling and Mining in 1989. Together they turned a small agricultural supply company into a multi-million-dollar engineering and materials handling firm. The company had branches in Townsville, Mackay, Brisbane, Mt Isa, Sydney and Jakarta.
In time, Sandco moved into computerised manufacturing equipment for mining (underground and surface) and held most of the major earthmoving contracts across Australia as well as undertaking work in Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. After getting shot at “one too many times” in Indonesia, Jon decided to move on to his next venture in the form of Rolco.
